Galaxy on Fire 2 – Supernova – Dev Diary, pt.5: For a Handful of Credits

Galaxy on Fire 2 - Supernova for iPhone and iPad (by Fishlabs Entertainment) - ThumbnailAs you might have guessed, the new mini-games featured in our previous Developer Diary are of course not the only new gameplay features, which have found their way into Galaxy on Fire 2™ – Supernova, the upcoming add-on to our popular open space shooter for iPhone and iPad. To make sure that Supernova™ will be keep the players entertained for many hours and offer a lot of thrill and excitement for novice and veteran players alike, we have also added a lot of new mission types to the forthcoming expansion pack. One of the coolest and most interesting new challenges – at least in my opinion – is without a doubt a novel gameplay mode called bounty hunting! Yeah right, in Supernova you can totally follow in footsteps of Boba Fett & Co and hunt down the galaxy’s most wanted criminals for a handful of credits! In our fifth Developer Diary for the second add-on to the Galaxy on Fire™ saga, we want to give you some more information about the unique procedures and mechanics of this new gameplay feature and also give you a little teaser of the amazing rewards that you might lay your hands on if you decide to make a living as an intergalactic bounty hunter. Mount your missiles and load your guns, fellas. Cause catchin’ the most wanted criminals of the universe surely ain’t child’s play!

43,000 credits is quite a nice sum. Before you can collect it, however, you need to take down the notorious dealer and mobster Qyrr Myfft in Fishlabs' upcoming outer space adventure Supernova for iPhone and iPad.

The first particularity that you will notice about bounty hunting is the fact that it is not available right from the start. The Terran Federation and the other factions only grant you access to their security servers, which contain the names, whereabouts and travel destinations of their most dangerous enemies, after you’ve gained their trust and mastered a number of story-bound missions. However, once you’ve reached that point and got access to the invaluable pieces of information stored on the hard disks of the most wanted terminals, the hunt begins! Starting at your target’s current destination, you’ll have to follow their travel route from jump gate to jump gate and scan all ships in the respective orbits. As soon as your scanner indicates a name in red letters, you’ve found your target. Taking it down, however, is not as easy as it sounds, because quite often these mobsters are surrounded by half a dozen pirate underlings, whom you’ve got to blow to pieces first before you can lay hands on their boss. The unavoidable dog fight gets particularly tricky, when the gang of thugs is already involved in a raging battle against the adjoining station’s security force. Especially if you got scatter guns or thermo-weapons installed, the broad distribution of the shots and explosions might cause unintended friendly fire quite easily – and sooner than you think you will not just be up against a band of space pirates, but also against a heavily armed and extremely hacked off security squadron.

Once you've found your target, all hell is about to break loose and the display of your smartphone or tablet is about to be set ablaze while you're gonna dash into battle with all guns blazing!

The routes you’ll have to follow in order to get hold of your target may vary in length quite a bit. Sometimes you just need to browse two or three orbits in order to find your prey and sometimes you need to travel through half of the galaxy before you’re able to face your adversary in the ultimate showdown. But you’ll better be quick. With several thousands of credits bounty on their heads, the galaxy’s most wanted criminals will surely not stay in one place too long. And if you waste too much time or if you don’t check their latest whereabouts at least every now and then, they might have changed their travel route in the meantime and taken course to an entirely different star system than the one you’ve been heading for. Also, some particularly shifty individuals might sell out their friends and give you the names of even higher-ranking criminals, if you let them live and don’t blow their vessels into pieces. As you see, bounty hunting in the Galaxy on Fire universe is quite a challenge… but it’s definitely worth the effort, because some of your targets will not only carry valuable cargo and bring in nice rewards, but even fly totally unique space ships, which you’ll be able to take over and fly yourself, once you’ve taken out their pilots. You can already take a sneak peek at one of those special Most Wanted ships, the fierce and ferocious Bloodstar, on the screen shot below. If you’ve got what it takes to defeat the ruthless Nivelian arms dealer in its cockpit, this beauty will be the next addition to your fleet!

The Most Wanted Criminals in the upcoming iPhone epic Galaxy on Fire 2 - Supernova fly unique space ships such as the Bloodstar on the picture above. If you've got what it takes to defeat their pilots in a dog fight, you can take over those ships and fly them yourself!

Well, fellow space pilots, what do you say? Do you still plan to keep the peaceful live of a trader or craftsman and earn your credits without ever pulling the trigger of your Disruptor Laser? Or are you already burning to take on the most dangerous dealers, pirates and terrorists in the galaxy and steal their custom-made space ships? Let us know in the comments…

  1. kaka says:

    Awesome!
I am very much looking forward to this add-on.

  2. joe says:

Would love to have a custom H’Soc that looks exactly like the normal H’Soc but with four primary weapons and 15 equipment slots. I feel the H’Soc is the most beautiful ship in the game but is not particularly useful. MAKE IT USEFUL!

  3. boba fett says:

shame no frontal pictures of the bloodstar can’t wait to start taking them all down though hope there is going to be a stat so we can compare the best bounty hunters in the galaxy also have all the wanted have unique ships?

  4. Sterling says:

Maybe a high res picture from the HD version instead of the standard? Great work though guys!!

  5. The bored one says:

I would love an release date

  6. Lachlan Oliver says:

Epic!!! I was wondering how you would be ale to buy the “Most Wanted Ships when there your worst enemies but this totally makes sense and is a really cool idea. But I really hope that there isn’t any more than twenty ships that we will have to track down as knowing what ship your opponent will have probably wont be possible until you find them. And Sterling it is actually better if they only show SD pics because your amazed by the new stuff and then when you see the HD versions when its released you will be amazed all over again.

  7. Tower_Defender says:

Looks AWESOME!! Are those turret placement spots on the wings of the Bloodstar?!?!?!? HMMM!?!?!?!

  8. Blade_Scorpion says:

    looks cool,
but why do we only get screenshots from that angel whit the new ships :-(
    the planet looks like earth.
still i would love costumizable home station

    @Tower_Defender
U realy want ur extra turrents dont you??

@the bored one, i read somewhere it was planned for 30 august…. but they can always move it.

  9. Adam says:

    Two very important things:

1: I get more than $100,000 per basic mission (like shooting down 3 pirates) when I work for a Vossk,
So I really think I should get at least $500,000 (but I’d prefer $1,000,000) for such a hard mission.

2: Some of those special ships should definitely have more than one turret.

    And completely off-subject…

3: I should be able to buy a battle cruiser (for about $50,000,000 to $200,000,000)

  10. Tower_Defender says:

    @bloodstar

Hey it isn’t the first time I’ve said something and Fishlab introduced it into the game. Donno if it was coincidence or not, but I posted on toucharcade and the forums here about wanting a more Vossk ships, especially one with heavy armor, slow speed, 4 guns and a turret. … and guess what? With Valkyrie, I become one even happier customer lol.

Now I’m just shooting for multi turret ships, because you could never go wrong with more guns! :)

  12. Tower_Defender says:

Wow… I posted that twice… Also I meant that towards Blade Scorpian… not the bloodstar lol. They both start with B. :(

  13. Turkey-man says:

Can you see it? In the last screenshot, in the left bottom corner. Is that a new freighter?

  14. Drake2504 says:

Looks Nice indeed and multiple turrets woud be great !

After finishing gof2 (again) i replayed the original gof3d and its à shame they didn’t keep the vossk battlecruiser in gof2 , aswell als the assaut missions on them. The vossk look like an agressive race but they’re missing some warships in gof2 .

Some big spacebattles would be nice also .

  15. tony muller says:

@Turkey-man sorry, but no; that’s just a Midorian Freighter without all of the containers.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the beastly ships…

  16. Galaxy Demon says:

Looks awesome guys!!! Also i was thinking of drones that you could deloy around your ship that should have to be instaled into your ship. Max drones could be 4 and 2 types, Mineing and combat drones, I say this because when going to the void system you get all shot up cause of no defence and auto turrets blow up the astroid your mineing so very hard to get ore. Please send a reply to my email. Thanks Fishlabs for a great game!

  17. Tower_Defender says:

Each faction should have a battlecruiser and a flagship that you can destroy.

  18. Drake2504 says:

Why not making these criminals chase you aswell , needing to be quick and and using stealth to escape them

  19. Keono says:

cool ship with a cool nome. epic.

    Idea:
I think maybe the opponents should have the same abilities as the player does, so its that much harder.
    ::::::;:::::;:::::;::::::::::;;;::::::::;;:::::;;;;:::::::::;;;;;;;;;;;:::::::::::::::;:::::::::::::::::::::::::::;;;
    a little art

  20. Tobi says:

Hello everyone and thanks for your feedback. It’s nice to hear that you’re looking forward to becoming an intergalactic bounty hunter and taking down the most wanted criminals of the GOF universe! As for the different aspects and issues you’ve mentioned in your posts, here’s a couple of answers… as always, keep your ideas and suggestions coming, we’re surely gonna read ‘em all and try to incorporate as many of ‘em into our upcoming titles as possible. Even if they won’t find their way into Supernova for one reason or another, there’s always the chance that they’ll still end up in a future instalment of the series. :)

@joe: I hope I don’t think we’re gonna remake the H’Soc in Supernova, but since the Vossk are well-known for their ship building skills all over the galaxy, I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a new model on the market by the time that Supernova is out. ;)

@boba fett: Not all wanted criminals have custom-made ships. The “minor” thugs command conventional vessels, while each faction’s enemy #1 flies a unique ship such as the Bloodstar.

@Sterling: The HD assets are not finished yet. Hence we’re only showing SD material at the moment. In the future, however, I’m sure you’re gonna get to see quite a bit of HD stuff as well.

@The bored one: GOF2 – Supernova is scheduled to be released on August 30th, 2012 in SD, HD and Full HD.

@Oliver Lachlan: To be honest, I haven’t beaten and of the Most Wanteds yet. I’ve only hunted down several minor criminals so far, but I’ve yet to take down the big ones with the custom-made ships. So I don’t know how exactly the taking over of the ships does work. I’ll find it out soon and let you know. :)

@Tower Defender: No, sorry. The Bloodstar does only have one turret slot. As for as I know, there won’t be any ships with multiple turret slots in Supernova.

@Blade_Scorpion: We don’t wanna reveal too much too early and hence we’ve decided not to publish frontview shots of the Bloodstar yet. However, we’re surely gonna do so in the future. :)

@Adam: If the players would be able to control battlecruisers themselves, the whole balancing would be pretty much destroyed as hardly any of the enemies you encounter in the game would stand a chance against such a huge and powerful ship. Also, I don’t think it would be much fun to fly ‘em cause they’re slow as hell, so basically you would just move forward at minimum speed and dozens of auto turrets would take out every ship near you.

@Drake: The Vossk battlecruiser is indeed pretty rad. Let’s wait and see if the Vossk will keep it grounded forever or make it a part of their fleet again in the future…

@Galaxy Demon: Combat drones have already been suggested in the past and even though we won’t have any real drones in Supernova, we’ll have other devices that’ll come pretty close. :)

  21. Siddharth iyer says:

This is probably the best feature ever!!!! This makes it possible to get better ships.
    Great job,!!!!

P.s, I had an idea that maybe some missions would need you to use specific ships for the job
    Just an idea

  22. Siddharth iyer says:

Another idea I had was a missile that breaks up into a bunch of small projectiles and each projectile chases down a different target It might not do a lot of damage but you would do light damage for a bunch of bad guys.It would have to be a blueprint because blueprints are always fun to make and it really deserves a blueprint.

Another idea, it would be cool if you could take on a job and have a waiting list where you could store more jobs. That way you don\’t have to have to talk to a person,do the mission, and then talk to another person. You could just do all the missions at once.

And lastly, I think that the payment you receive by shooting down criminals should such that the harder the criminals, the more money you receive. The highest payment should be around 500000$ of payment.also I think that the harder criminals should be surrounded by mines and emb bombs, just as a twist!

  23. Drake2504 says:

Great news , can’t wait ! And bring in that vossk battlecruiser

  24. dzpatriot says:

    for Tobi

I gave the idea of independent systems with a technology quite different from the present time for humans to a very advanced technology. suffice it to 4 or 5 civilizations special trade some of which will, destroy all other ships entering their system, etc. … These civilizations will not have such a system each. I think the design of the stations would not be too hard to do for August 30 and personally I’d like to see a space station Mir or ISS-like

  25. Blade_Scorpion says:

    Yay for more vossk ships.
i undestand that ur posting small ammounts of info, u need to fill a a couple more blogs with new info.

but i got sort of a problem,
all my saveslots are full, maby u can add a button for more save files… and i need at least 1 maby 3 more save slots for Nova…

also like it if u add earth as a planet somewhere, with the ISS space station
cant wait for the next blog..

  26. Redstar says:

Love this game and so looking forward to the \\\’Nova! (probablty a dumb one but, here goes) Question: when one upgrades to the HD version. Do they lose their current stats, ships and cash? I have an arsenal of ships, weapons, 66 mill and Kaamo. Not ready to part with it yet.

  27. Tobi says:

Cheers, Redstar. With the releases of Valkyrie HD in in March ’12 and Valkyrie Full HD in May ’12, Galaxy on Fire 2 has finally become a full cross-platform sci-fi gaming experience! This means that you can now freely transfer your save games between all versions of the game (if you’ve bought ‘em, of course). Supernova will be released simultaneously in SD, HD and Full HD, so you won’t lose any of your stats or achievements when you play the new add-on in HD instead of SD. In order to do so, however, you need to have bought the main game in the respective version (SD, HD and/or Full HD) before. If you only own the main game in SD; for example, you also have to unlock the add-on(s) in SD and not in HD.

And Blade_Scorpion, I’m not sure if this will be possible but I’ll ask our developers tomorrow and let you know right away! :)

  28. Joe says:

    New Turret?

  29. Bloodstar says:

I have an idea how you can kill the pilot but not his ship, you could shoot a special level 10 missile that does only enough damage to the air supply to kill him but not to hurt the ship. The missile could also be a Emp weapon. You could also dock his ship like you can mine asteroids and all you would have to do is knock the pilot out.

  30. GosthMan says:

I usually make a lot from craft and trade but with this i will be totally kill them all :)

  31. yesplease says:

    @bloodstar

fire some highly contaminated handcrafted selfmade biological weapons onto his ship to knock just him out and not the ship. This is of course outlawed by any fraction, therefore you can’t buy those weapons on any market.

  32. Keono says:

    Idea: Energy Cell Extractor (ECE).

Extracts energy form suns, black holes, gamma rays ,x-rays, ultraviolet light, visible light, exc. includes radiation.

Put it in the next expansion pack with a story of someone using this for evil it`s also manually installed on space stations for free energy.

ECE can also be reversed to put the stored energy into Energy Cells

  33. G.inF.(212) says:

Wy don’t you create some ship with 14 slots ,4 main guns and with turret slot?

  34. G.inF.(212) says:

Will be your new version with Co-op?

  35. Drake2504 says:

    @ tobi

Could you just us please if the kaamo club will have any new fuctions or something new we can do inside or outside the station. And could you ask that even when you bought the add on for the kaamo club , you need to clear the pirates first and have the conversation between you and mkkt bkkt giving it to you then

  36. Keono says:

    @Tobi

On the wiki website you told me about, I have a question about the ViodX ship, just to make sure. How do you get the ViodX ship on Galaxy on Fire 2 HD?

What is Keith T. Maxwell`s middle name?

In Supernova will we be able to buy or keep the Most Wanted Criminal`s ships like the Bloodstar because it looks like they are going to be epic?

  37. Drake2504 says:

    @ keono

Just get all the golden medals and you can buy it at tynome (wolf-reiser)

  38. Drake2504 says:

Something nice would be that at kaamo you could create your own faction logo and adjust the colors of your ships aswell as the logo on your ship

  39. Blade_Scorpion says:

    @drake
Wow thats a great idear, i mean ship color, just put in a menu that controls the faction color, and u need to pay for repainting of ur ship :-)
    its one of great idear

(exept for the logo i find that useless)

but for now keep up the great work on the expantion and everything else im psyced

  40. Franklin says:

Hi! a while ago in a earlier blog post i asked about a possible multiplayer experience in the game your response is that you might implement that later on will that happen in this expansion ?
And will this expansion release simultaneously on OS X as well as on IOS ?

  41. Bloodship says:

Is there any way to get void ships for your station?

  42. Keono says:

Thanks Drake2504 thats what I thought.

  43. Dpen00 says:

Would like the ability to modify your ships. Such as add more equipment slots, primary or secondary weapon slots to a vessel you own.
    Make this possible either by:
1: Having to get this done by buying coordinates to remote space station that specialize in customization of spacecrafts

    2: Special Mission

3: Blueprint (we all love blueprints)

Make the cost increase for each addition slot that is added. The more slots that are added the more the cost multiplies in conjunction with that type of modification.
    Also limit each modification:
1: Max primary weapon slots 4
2: Max secondary weapon slots 4
    3: Max equipment slots 14

The larger the ship the more mods that can be made and for smaller ships fewer, but all ships have the ability to be modified in some way with an extra slot. If weapon slots can\’t be added because of ship model designs and gun placements, I understand, but those factors shouldn\’t effect the equipment or secondary.

These are just my thoughts would like to hear some feedback. Thanks

  44. andy says:

you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

  45. Keono says:

    @fishlabs

Crashes that need to be fixed in the next update:
    1. Crashes when you leave the jumpgate from Eanya, Weymire to Nehma, Behen.
    2. When leaving the station of Valadin, Buntta.
    3. When leaving the Neso Aehma, Behen station in a Teneta with two wingmen.

Note: I will be typing crashes when I come across while playing the game.I also Just reinstalled the Galaxy on Fire 2 HD game.

  46. Tobi says:

@Bloodstar: I took down Qyrr Myfft now, so I finally figured out how it works. It’s actually quite easy. Once you’ve killed a faction’s Most Wanted Criminal, his ship will be available for purchase on the the black market.

@Gosth Man: Same here. I used to trade a lot to earn cash, but lately I grew quite fond of blasting space pirates to pieces and steal their cargo. Hunting down those Most Wanted Criminals is good fun, especially when you get their ships afterwards… ;)

@Drake: Yeah, in Supernova you’re gonna meet quite a few special characters in the Kaamo Club, who’ll make you a lot of interesting offers… if you can afford ‘em, of course!

@Keono: Once you’ve bought the Most Wanted ships, you can surely keep ‘em as long as you like… ad thanks for mentioning the crashes. I’ll forward your report to our developers when I’m back in the office on Tuesday.

@Franklin: Sorry, but Supernova won’t contain a multiplayer mode. There will be multiplayer titles from Fishlabs in the future, but GOF2 Supernova won’t be one of them.

  47. Drake2504 says:

Great for the kaamo club , will there be some movement outside the station aswell ?

  48. Drake2504 says:

The draaken would have been nice as retro-ship keeping his 5 primary weapons, but i found à picture of the gryphon flying over a freighter with supernova in the corner of the image . Is this an official screenshot of supernova ?

  49. Boomboom says:

-Prohibit the use of camouflage and nukes when bounty hunting otherwise it will be way to easy to kill criminals and everything else for that matter.
-Allow for upgrading mode difficulty on the fly. If need be for a fee. I play easy mode and would love to switch to a higher difficulty mode without having to start all over from scratch.
-Incorporate signatures into missions as they are quite hard to come by.

Keep up the good work. GoF2 is by far my most favorite IOS game ever!

  50. Boss_Tally says:

Are those additional turret/plasma mining slots I see on The Bloodstar?
