Galaxy on Fire 2 – Supernova – Dev Diary, pt.5: For a Handful of Credits

Galaxy on Fire 2 - Supernova for iPhone and iPad (by Fishlabs Entertainment) - ThumbnailAs you might have guessed, the new mini-games featured in our previous Developer Diary are of course not the only new gameplay features, which have found their way into Galaxy on Fire 2™ – Supernova, the upcoming add-on to our popular open space shooter for iPhone and iPad. To make sure that Supernova™ will be keep the players entertained for many hours and offer a lot of thrill and excitement for novice and veteran players alike, we have also added a lot of new mission types to the forthcoming expansion pack. One of the coolest and most interesting new challenges – at least in my opinion – is without a doubt a novel gameplay mode called bounty hunting! Yeah right, in Supernova you can totally follow in footsteps of Boba Fett & Co and hunt down the galaxy’s most wanted criminals for a handful of credits! In our fifth Developer Diary for the second add-on to the Galaxy on Fire™ saga, we want to give you some more information about the unique procedures and mechanics of this new gameplay feature and also give you a little teaser of the amazing rewards that you might lay your hands on if you decide to make a living as an intergalactic bounty hunter. Mount your missiles and load your guns, fellas. Cause catchin’ the most wanted criminals of the universe surely ain’t child’s play!

43,000 credits is quite a nice sum. Before you can collect it, however, you need to take down the notorious dealer and mobster Qyrr Myfft in Fishlabs' upcoming outer space adventure Supernova for iPhone and iPad.

The first particularity that you will notice about bounty hunting is the fact that it is not available right from the start. The Terran Federation and the other factions only grant you access to their security servers, which contain the names, whereabouts and travel destinations of their most dangerous enemies, after you’ve gained their trust and mastered a number of story-bound missions. However, once you’ve reached that point and got access to the invaluable pieces of information stored on the hard disks of the most wanted terminals, the hunt begins! Starting at your target’s current destination, you’ll have to follow their travel route from jump gate to jump gate and scan all ships in the respective orbits. As soon as your scanner indicates a name in red letters, you’ve found your target. Taking it down, however, is not as easy as it sounds, because quite often these mobsters are surrounded by half a dozen pirate underlings, whom you’ve got to blow to pieces first before you can lay hands on their boss. The unavoidable dog fight gets particularly tricky, when the gang of thugs is already involved in a raging battle against the adjoining station’s security force. Especially if you got scatter guns or thermo-weapons installed, the broad distribution of the shots and explosions might cause unintended friendly fire quite easily – and sooner than you think you will not just be up against a band of space pirates, but also against a heavily armed and extremely hacked off security squadron.

Once you've found your target, all hell is about to break loose and the display of your smartphone or tablet is about to be set ablaze while you're gonna dash into battle with all guns blazing!

The routes you’ll have to follow in order to get hold of your target may vary in length quite a bit. Sometimes you just need to browse two or three orbits in order to find your prey and sometimes you need to travel through half of the galaxy before you’re able to face your adversary in the ultimate showdown. But you’ll better be quick. With several thousands of credits bounty on their heads, the galaxy’s most wanted criminals will surely not stay in one place too long. And if you waste too much time or if you don’t check their latest whereabouts at least every now and then, they might have changed their travel route in the meantime and taken course to an entirely different star system than the one you’ve been heading for. Also, some particularly shifty individuals might sell out their friends and give you the names of even higher-ranking criminals, if you let them live and don’t blow their vessels into pieces. As you see, bounty hunting in the Galaxy on Fire universe is quite a challenge… but it’s definitely worth the effort, because some of your targets will not only carry valuable cargo and bring in nice rewards, but even fly totally unique space ships, which you’ll be able to take over and fly yourself, once you’ve taken out their pilots. You can already take a sneak peek at one of those special Most Wanted ships, the fierce and ferocious Bloodstar, on the screen shot below. If you’ve got what it takes to defeat the ruthless Nivelian arms dealer in its cockpit, this beauty will be the next addition to your fleet!

The Most Wanted Criminals in the upcoming iPhone epic Galaxy on Fire 2 - Supernova fly unique space ships such as the Bloodstar on the picture above. If you've got what it takes to defeat their pilots in a dog fight, you can take over those ships and fly them yourself!

Well, fellow space pilots, what do you say? Do you still plan to keep the peaceful live of a trader or craftsman and earn your credits without ever pulling the trigger of your Disruptor Laser? Or are you already burning to take on the most dangerous dealers, pirates and terrorists in the galaxy and steal their custom-made space ships? Let us know in the comments…

WOW, this expac sounds awesome, love punting the pirate head allergy in GOF2THD, dont have 1stthat expac yet, was knot released for experia play on android which os a shame, will this be released for all android devices capable like the Atrix 4g on or will we lose out again for not having an IOS?

  2. Mack says:

Really well thought out. Really looking forward to playing supernova. Would be nice to see the galaxy open up alot more… Say, a system that was far out.. Taking perhaps 50 energy cells to get too…. Then another small group of systems say 100 energy cells from that ;) .. A return to Eden prime eh!!
Would be nice to have a spacestation on a moon.. Or planet :)
    Great job folks

  3. Adama says:

Enjoyed the game tremendously, looking forward to the the next add-on.

One question, though: why buy a space station for 30 million credits when all you can use it for is storing things? Why not add another game in the game where you can use your station as a trading post – sending goods to it, setting prices, buying/selling orders etc. Or where you can actually run the Kaamo Club by selling all sorts of booze and the like? Without any interaction, owning the station doesn’t really make sense…

  4. Drake2504 says:

So each faction has à most wanted criminal with his own ship . There’ the “head hunter”, the “cross”, the “bloodstar” and could number four be the black armored looking aegir ? Or will there be other new factions aswell ?

And with the “gryphon” and the “rhino” joining the terran fleet we are at 6 new ships to cellect , how many other ships will there be in supernova ?

  5. Tobi says:

@Drake: Yes, that’s an official picture of the Gryphon. That classic ship will make its return in GOF2 Supernova! All in all, there’ll be seven or eight new ships in Supernova, I think. The phantom fighter is one of them, but it’s not a Most Wanted ship… ;)

@Boomboom: Thanks for the nice words. It would indeed cool to change the difficulty level during the campaign without having to start all over again. I’ll forward your idea to our developers and check what they think about it.

@Boss_Tally: No, the Bloodstar only has one turret/plasma slot. The Bloodstar is the most powerful ship in the GOF universe anyway and with three turrets it would be almost unbeatable…

@Phill: Supernova will be released exclusively for iOS devices first. However, if our upcoming Android portings of the main game Galaxy on Fire 2 will perform fine on Google Play, there’s a good chance that the add-ons Valkyrie and Supernova will be ported to Android as well.

@Mack: As far as I know, there are no plans of sending Keith back to Eden Prime anytime soon… but then again, one should never say never… ;)

@Adama: A lot of people like to collect space ships and own every vessel in the universe, for example. Without the Kaamo Club, that’s not possible, cause then you can only own one space ship at a time. So if you want to gather a huge fleet and store way more valuable goods than your cargo bay can hold, it makes sense to buy the Kaamo Club as well. Nevertheless, the Kaamo Club will get several new functionalities in Supernova, too… so you better start collecting some Buskat and a nice sum of credits. ;)

  6. Drake2504 says:

    @tobi

Could you ask that even when you bought the add on for the kaamo club , you need to clear the pirates first and have the conversation between you and mkkt bkkt giving it to you then

  7. Tobi says:

Yeah, that would actually be a good idea. I really like Mkkt Bkkt and meeting him in the game always puts a smile to my face, but I never even got to experience the “Kaamo” episode cause I bought the Kaamo Club via in-app purchase right away… would be nice if one could still get to talk to that grumpy ol’ Multipod and kick some pirate ass even if one had bought the station via in-app purchase and not in trade for huge amounts of buskat and in-game credits… I’ll surely forward your suggestion to our developers. :)

  8. Blade_Scorpion says:

im hearing a lot about new ships :-)

as me being one of the loyal bloggers/players,
i have stocked kaamo whit every know weapon, rocket and ship
(Liberator rocket is Epic i got 1100 of em)
its just a matter of time before i have all the most wanted ships

i got another idear maby u can make a Emp liberator whit xtream electro pulse that stops every ship in a large area

i got to say nice work on the bug fixes
    keep up the good work,

  9. Phill says:

Thats good to know tonight cant wait to see it, GOF2THD runs ice-cold on my Atrix so can’t see any reason why the addons wont run fine too :D

  10. Drake2504 says:

    @ Tobi

Can you tell us one of the new functionallities of the kaamo club

And yeah some kind of emp liberator would be nice

Having different primary weapons slots for emp weapons would be handy (maybe just on the better ships), being able to switch between emp’s and primary weapons while flying.
Just like the wingmen are able to do.

  11. Phill says:

Is kaamo club. Part of the valkrie addons, an update or is it allergy inside GOF2THD?

  12. Keono says:

    Can you become a pirate?

  13. Not a n00b says:

How much will this cost, it looks epic. Love the new ships. Will there be dropships.

  14. The Great Beowulf says:

So my question, is Supernova a add on or a hole new expansion. Will I still have all my ships and weapons and money or will I have to start over again? I’ve read all the blogs but could not find the answer or another inquiry to this. So far I have to say I’m am really looking forward to this either way.

  15. Tobi says:

Hi Beowulf, Supernova is an add-on for GOF2. It’ll add, among others, a whole new storyline, which is at least as long as the storylines of the main game Galaxy on Fire 2 and the first expansion pack Valkyrie combined, as well as tons of new content such as space ships, star systems, weapons systems, equipment, blueprints, mission types and gameplay features. Since Supernova’s story sets in right where Valkyrie ended, you can of course take all your ships, stats and credits over to Supernova, too.

  16. Tobi says:

Thanks for the nice feedback, Not a n00b. Glad you like what you’ve seen so far. We haven’t decided on the price yet, but it’ll be pretty reasonable and you’ll surely get your money’s worth. There will be dropships in Supernova, too. We’ve already included a screenshot of one of ‘em, the Rhino, to our latest press release. You can check it out in the “press” section of Fishlabs.net. It’s the biggest ship the players will be able to fly themselves in the GOF2 universe so far… :)

  17. Tobi says:

@Phill: Kaamo Club is not part of the Valkyrie add-on but is of a free content update that is released simultaneously with Valkyrie. Hence, the players don’t need to buy Valkyrie in order to get access to the Kaamo Club. However, the Kaamo Club is only available for versions of GOF2 which also contain the Valkyrie update. Unfortunately, this means that it can not yet be obtained in the THD version.

@Drake: I’m not sure if I can already reveal any of these features, as it might still be a little early to let the cat out of the bag and reveal all the new features several weeks or months in advance… but one way or another, you’ll find out about ‘em soon enough. Stay tuned! :)

  18. Phill says:

THD tobi, sux that its not in THD version yet atleast as its the only version available for this phone.

  19. Toyota974 says:

How about once you get ALL the most wanted you unlock a super ship left by an anciet race that has epic stats, that would be great.

  20. JeanLafitte95 says:

Awesome! I love making credits, now even more ways to make them! Question though, the plant in the background of that station on the third photo, is that planet Earth?

  21. Not a n00b says:

Is that a new turret on bloodstar. I hope it is because the game needs more turrets.

  22. Not a n00b says:

Is the black stealth fighter a new factions ship and can you ask the dev. If they can make enemy ships have turrets, that would make it more fun.

  23. The Great Beowulf says:

Thanks Tobi you rock. It’s nice to actually get such a personal response. You guys have really created a great thing here and I’m really impressed with all that you are doing.

  24. Tobi says:

@Toyota974: There’ll be some kinda “special ship” in GOF2 Supernova. At this point of time, however, it’s still too early to reveal further information about that ship or how it can be obtained.

@JeanLafitte95: The planet looks similar to Earth but it’s not Earth itself. Since GOF2 takes place at the far end of the universe, the planets of our own solar system are not present in the game.

@Not a n00b: I gotta confess, I’m not an expert in turrets, but I think you’re right. Unfortunately the names of the weapons as well as their stats and descriptions are not yet final, so I can’t tell you the name of the turret or how powerful it is.

@Beowulf: Thanks for the nice words! We always try our best to stay in touch with our community as closely as possible. After all, it’s you guys who make sure that Keith can set out to save the universe again and again… if no one would be interested in GOF2 anymore, he’d be in retirement by now and do some kinda boring routine job, like removing space junk, for example. Thanks to the loyal GOF2 fans, however, he can still be a hero and fight his way through new challenges and adventures again and again! :)

  25. Siyer says:

    Dear tobi
I’m glad that you have not given up on kieth t maxwell.
Gof2 is a awesome game I finished the valkeriy add on pack a fev days ago and the ending was just awesome!!
    Idea for supernova
Maybe a secondary weapon that breaks up in to a huge scatter field of bullets? Just a idea
How do I see the most wanted ships ?

  26. Slorg says:

Can you become a pirate or join the voids?

  27. Josh says:

Haha, stocked up with 38 million credits and 600 liberator missles for this Expansion!!!

I was wondering if they’re gonna add a ship that has two turret slots?

Already loving the 4 primary 4 secondary and turret slot Bloodstar!

  28. Richard says:

I have a question will the supernova add on be only for iphone and ipad or will it be released for android as well cause I’m play on expeira play and its fun so will android get the add on as well cause I’ve just finished all the quest and addon quest so does android get the new addon supernova do say yes

  29. Bryan says:

I have the expansion and it’s great. I’m a bit of a collector, so I like buying all the ships. I make tons of “Archimedes” turrets and sell them in the Loma system to generate credits. My only problem is: I’ve defeated all of the “most wanted” criminals, but I have only been able to find the Bloodstar. I’ve looked everywhere (it seems) — any help would be appreciated.

Could it be a bug? I only recall getting a pop-up telling me I could buy the Bloodstar on Quineros, I can’t remember getting a pop-up for any of the other ships when I knocked-off their corresponding criminals. I’m playing on the iPad 3 and have the fully updated App as of 12/18/2012.
